Jessica's Sip & See

My best friend, Kim, hosted a sip and see for her sister, Jessica, and her new baby girl, Eloise. Kim had a very cute Jane Austen themed shower. I was in love with all of the decorations she had and how cute everything was. Baby Eloise was adorable, and I'm so glad I was able to come and meet her. Kim made moss covered letters, used her silhouette to cut out letters for banners, had all these cute cups and plates, displayed outfits she bought for Eloise, and gave away Jane Austen books wrapped with lace and used a clothespin to attach a bag of tea to it as a party favor. I had a great time with friends who are like family, and meeting new additions to our posse. Beautiful baby and a beautiful shower.

Favorite Friday

Quick recap of what has been going on lately, and then another random Favorite Friday to share.

We had a fun Valentine's with the Owens and Smullens. We went over to the Owens' house and had a pot luck there. I guess in addition to our annual Christmas dinners, we started to get together on Valentine's day too. We tried last year, but then Lily had her accident so plans changed. Glad we didn't have a bloody Valentine's day this year!
The next day, we met up with the Moroccos and Moshenbergs at the Sam Houston Race Track and spent the night making bad bets on horses. We had some good close calls though which made it fun to scream and yell for your horse. I think the last time we went was about 2 years ago, so it was fun to go back again.
Not much else is new right now. We're just keeping busy, and I've gone couponing some more (stocked up on some paper towels, toilet paper, and shampoo/conditioner). Ryan went to a conference in College Station for a few days earlier this week, and I have a conference to go to towards the end of next week. Mine is in Houston though.

Marisa told me she was going to meet up with her college friends this weekend and each of them were bringing a small favorite thing to share with everyone. It made me think of some more of my favorite things and lead to another random Friday Favorite post. Current favorites while hoping the cold weather will stick around a little while longer:

1) Orange spice tea - I actually tried this tea for the first time on the cruise. I normally don't like spiced flavored teas, but I really like the orange flavor in this one and bought some when we got home. A hot cup of tea is a nice way to relax and end your evening.

2) Pilot erasable pens - My sister, Kim, gave me some of these when she came back home from S.Korea. I normally prefer to use pencil since I make mistakes in my writing all the time. I love these pens. They actually erase really well. I'll probably have to end up buying more through ebay or something because I keep using them.

3) Aerie nightshirt - I bought one around Christmas and it is so soft and comfy. I tried to go back and buy another one, but it was sold out. I did find a green gingham one that was very similar, so I have another one coming.

Happy Lunar New Year

Lunar New year started on January 31st, but my dad and sister were in California, so we waited until the next weekend to celebrate. Millie was the first to receive li xi from me this year.
This past weekend, we met my brother, sisters, and nieces at Viet Hoa in chinatown for their new year celebration. They had various tents outside to buy things and had lion and dragon dances in the afternoon. My sister bought Taylor a very cute pink ao dai, traditional Vietnamese dress. This is probably the last time I will be able to hold both Sophia and Taylor together. They are getting so big now!
Afterwards, we stopped by the Owens for a game of Balloon Lagoon with Violet and to play with some pop pops since we were nearby. Parker decided to pop one using his hands. I love the expression he gave me after he did it.

Couponing

I have always loved a good deal. Who doesn't? I am not an extreme couponer by any means. I do not purchase multiple Sunday newspapers. I don't currently buy any newspaper. I mainly use coupons on the web, show them on my phone, get them through text, or print them off online. I recently started asking Maw-Maw to save her Sunday newspaper coupons for me, so I'll start using some of those too.

While I like the show extreme couponing, I am not willing to devote that much time to it. It sounds awesome to save that much, but these people spend all their time finding these deals! I started following some couponers through instagram and sometimes they will hit up several of the same stores in one day just to get the deal. I am not looking to do a big extreme coupon haul. I do not have the room in our small bungalow to have a stock pile of things, but I wouldn't mind getting some deals when I can.

I have created my own stack of coupons from printing them off the web and from the ones I have received from Maw-Maw. Ryan is already shaking his head at me when he asks what I'm doing and I tell him couponing. So far, I think we're set on mouth wash and toothpaste for at least half of this year. Those seem like the easiest things to get for free or cheap. There must be a lot of couponers around me though because when I try to get a good deal, the item is all gone and all I find are empty shelves. Right now, I'm enjoying it, but it does take up a lot of time so who knows how long this will last. If anyone is interested, then here are some links I use and some information on what I use often:

Krazy Coupon Lady - they were on the TLC show extreme couponing
Free Stuff Finder - found through an old friend on Instagram
Target - use your coupons first (newspaper, coupons.com, or even from target website), then use their cartwheel app and mobile coupons to save more
Kroger - use their mobile app to load coupons to your card that will deduct automatically when you scan your Kroger card to check out and they have something for free every Friday if you load it to your card that particular Friday they offer it
Pinchme - website to sign up for free samples

Recent deals this week: I received my second Pinchme box that had a trial of instant coffee, clay facial mask, and cocoa butter lotion. I bought 2 sticks of deodorant and three packs of floss for $3.22, but received a $3 off my next purchase coupon when I bought them which makes all 5 items for $0.22 total. I also bought toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, and swiffer dusters this week. Any other couponers out there?
